Noe
Valley Branch Library
Designed by John Reid Jr., the Noe Valley Branch Library opened in 1916 as one of seven Carnegie neighborhood libraries in San Francisco. In addition to improved facilities and small additions, this historic building underwent a complete seismic upgrade of the existing unreinforced masonry, steel, and wood-frame structure.
The historic fabric was preserved while all new structural elements were hidden. These included a steel-truss diaphragm added above the decorative plaster ceiling and shotcrete walls extending from the new footings to the base of the roof trusses.
