Bullards Bar Spillway

The project involved evaluation of the three existing radial gates on the spillway under conditions of gravity (with hydrostatic pressure), gate lifting (with hydrostatic pressure), and seismic excitation(with the reservoir full). The radial gates at the New Bullards Bar Dam are the largest in California, retaining approx. 55 feet of water at the max. reservoir operationg level.

The project was divided into three phases: Phase 1- Structural analysis using finite element model of the spillway incorporating a spillway gate and slice of the reservoir behind the gate.  Phase 2 – Structural Engineering design and analysis for strengthening gate. Phase 3 – Re-analysis of strengthened gate. Construction documents and construction administration completed.
